“Never underestimate a child – because you never know what potential they have or what future awaits them.”
Doreen shares Valence’s mission to raise children out of poverty. She arrives at the task with her own set of skills. She’s worked in Administration, Community Development, and Micro-Finance for women’s empowerment programs. Her present work at Mukono Nursery School entails teaching, staffing and running a school dedicated to exposing the youngest minds to the love of an education.
She is passionate about working with children. Her primary joy is the Child Sponsorship program she has run for the past 12 years. She matches impoverished village children with sponsors who pay for school supplies, uniforms, health care, meals and boarding for little ones who otherwise have no chance of an education. Some children have successfully completed school through the university.
Doreen, also, rises between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. most days of the week, not arriving home until 12 hours later. She is a working professional, a mother and a wife – and juggles those three full-time positions with grace and kindness.
(Doreen earned her undergraduate degree in Developmental Studies from Makerere University, Kampala and received a post graduate diploma in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Management Institute.)
